![]() ![]() Live! Hardware synth, 4MB soundfont loaded Live! Hardware synth, 1MB soundfont loaded Winamp knew how to use this one but Cakewalk Sonar doesn't see this. Live! Software This is a weird one, it's not a DirectMusic one and it's not a traditional midiout device, i don't know what it is. Live! DirectMusic Again, this is a DirectMusic device so it's only accessible in games that use DirectMusic, and some audio players. Then comes the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital: The microsoft midiout synth is essentially the same, just without the reverb. ![]() Microsoft/Roland DirectMusic synth See how it adds reverb when i've especially instructed all audio programs to stay the hell away from the EAX processor? The patches have to wait till next week, but in the mean time, here's a fun comparison:Ī brief clip from the sytem shock theme, played with all the midi synths i have on this box All played on winamp, recorded with Goldwave, encoded with lame. Unfortunately games like No-one Lives Forever expect you to use that synth so using my Live's (i still can't understand why it comes with two hardware synths and one in software, at least i now have 64-part multitimbrality ) synths will make the music in NOLF sound bad. Oh and btw: A flatulent frog sounds better than the Microsoft/Roland GM-GS synth that comes with DirectMusíc. I loathe trackers in particular, Wavetable midi synths come in second. Now if i could only get system shock to load the sample data to this Live 5.1.īut being a hobbyist musician myself and much into the electronic sound, I'm inclined to say a true (be it by real life physical instruments or a synthesizer) sound beats the fschustoffel out of sampled sound any day. The best thing about System Shock and Terra Nova is that they loaded in their own samples into the AWE and GUS boards, so they sounded way better than your average game with your average wavetable board. Sorry to resurrect a near-dead thread but i just felt an immense urge to comment. ![]()
